At long last I have finally found a vessel worthy of the title Ice Cream Bowl.

Chapter member Ken Shepherd spun this up recently after a two year air drying cycle on the 2" thick roughout.

Zero warpage, zero defects, Total excellence.

Yup, it's mayo-made.

Hmmmm.....

A bathtub sized bowl filled with ice-cream and grandchildren?

Something sounds rather hilarious about that....

Nice looking bowl Andy, wish we had a closer shot of it. I thought I saw some beading going on there...

I guess I better get the girls saddled up...you're gonna need help eating all that ice cream! (But leave off the maple syrup...it will result in too much ice cream for "you" to eat... :D )

Impressive bowl Andy. My idea of heaven is a bowl that size full of chocolate ice cream that never reaches the bottom. I can feel my pancreas churning just thinking about it!

Absolutely Agree.....and when the ice cream runs out....I'm thinking a bowl full of M&Ms. I wonder if they sell 15lb bags of them?

It's a purty bowl that one is!

Nice bowl Andy. I just bet it will hold a fair amount of popcorn as well. :D

Beautiful bowl! Even I couldn't eat that much ice cream!

What species of wood is it?

Thanks for posting the pics.

Look for Ken Shepherd's name on this page (http://www.mainewoodturners.org/html/may_2007_s_t.html) and you'll get the specs..

Andy that is a serious icecream bowl. From the looks of it you have some serious talent in your club also.

I tried to picture that bowl turned on its side and up against your belly. I'm not sure if even you, Andy Hoyt, the mother of all ice cream consumers, could eat that much ice cream. At least not in one sitting.

That sure is a nice bowl and the size makes it that much nicer.

Also, you club website really is "the best". (Andy won 1st place in the AAW cub website competition) And you have some incredible work on display from a lot of talented turners in the club.

You must be on a diet ... using such a tiny bowl for ice cream.

I'll let you in on a little secret, Glenn. I've been competing on the international ice cream circuit for just over fifteen years . So when the notion of, "I am a professional, do not attempt this at home" comes up, I thoroughly agree. Do so only at restaurants and at the home of others as it makes cleanup much easier to avoid. I would have won the World Cup title back in '96 but those darn Bolivians cornered me with a pistachio twist that I just couldn't overcome.
