A couple of weeks ago my wife noticed an ad in the local paper about an up and coming art exhibit called “Artists of the U.P.” Upper Peninsula (Michigan) residents were requested to drop off 2 pieces of artwork Monday May 21 at the DeVos Art Museum, located on the Northern Michigan University campus Marquette, Michigan. Jurying took place that same evening and everyone was to be notified on Tuesday if their work had been accepted.

Got the call on Tuesday that one of my hollow forms had been selected! Wow, only turned 2 HFs so far and managed to get one of them into an art show! :D

My wife and I were invited to the opening reception which was held last night. We attended, had a lot fun and met a lot of really nice people. There were only 3 items in the exhibit that used wood as a medium, a turned bowl, my HF and a chair that looked like something Conan the Barbarian would sit on. The chair won first place honors!

My wife did manage to get a photo of my first exhibit – mainly to send to the grandkids.

Just thought I’d share, cause I don’t consider myself real artful, and for those of you just starting out - if I can do it – man, anyone can! ;)

That is great Steve! It must be some feeling to go to one of those things with such a beautiful piece to display. I'm sure it will be the first of many.

Congrat Steve,

There is a significant difference between making an item and putting it out there as your art. Skills, mind set, ect. change as you make the transition. Enjoy the ride.

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for their kind words. No one was more surprised than me when I was accepted to the art show. Once again, thanks - and keep posting - it's how we all learn!
