Work let out at noon so I had some time to install a Byrd head on my 6in powermatic 54a jointer. Some thoughts:

o I've been wanting to try a shelix for years but couldn't justify the expense for a 6in jointer. Kept on thinking I'd upgrade to a larger jointer instead. Finally got fed up with adjusting the knives and I dont see an upgrade in the near future so what the heck.

o I bought the head from Sunhill because it came with the bearings installed. It even had the end caps installed. It came with new bolts, pulley key, screw driver for changing carbide inserts and 10 extra inserts in a little case.

o Installation was a breeze with minimal blood lost. The inserts across the length are within 2 thousands all the way around. I was never able to get all 3 knives that close.

o I jointed some figured cherry and got excellent results. Everyone comments on how quiet these heads are and there right. Really nice feature. I'm very happy with this upgrade:)
