Howdy,

Got real interested in old planes and bought an old iron Stanley #7 Jointer at a flea market before really knowing what to look for, but for $10 figured it was safe. Pat date is 1902.

Anyway, the top of the frog including the lat adjustment lever is broken off. Also needs a new blade, maybe 1/2" left.

Been looking for frogs on Ebay and not seeing any for #7, but several from #6s, will that fit?

Thanks,

Jake

I don't know, but the cutter width is the same; that's a good start.

My guess would be yes since they are the same width. However there is another problem, not all frogs are created equal. According to Patrick's Blood & Glore, there are four different frog designs. You will need figure what vintage plane you have and get a corresponding frog. Here's the link to the index page of Patrick's Blood & Gore . Look under the section for the #3 bench plane. It goes through the history of the various plane parts in great detail. If you need help figuring out what vintage or "type" your plane is, look for the "Stanely Plane Dating Flow" in the Woodcentral's Badger Pond Archives.

Good Luck,
Wendell
