Delta Midi Lathe Problem

My Delta Midi is having a problem. I've searched the forum and I believe it is the starter capacitor. The symptoms are:

– smells hot after a period of use
– will not start without manually spinning the headstock handwheel (after it starts smelling hot)
– loses power and slows down under load (noticed while Beall buffing)
– it seems to be OK after being shut down over night

Questions:

– Are there other things I should be checking while I have the lathe apart?
– Are there any hidden gotcha's with removing the motor and dissassembling the starter cap?
