What grit wheels would be optimum for grinding turning tools? Should you have different grits on opposite ends of the grinder?

Michael...

I use an 8" variable speed grinder, with a 36 grit "standard" gray wheel and a 60 grit white wheel. As soon as the latter wears down, I'll probably replace it with an 80 grit wheel.

I'm sure you'll get lots of opinions on wheel size, grits and grinding speed. Your mileage may vary...I'm satisfied with mine.

.. low speed turning grinder has a 60 grit white wheel on the L side for shaping, and a blue 120 grit wheel on the R side for sharpening.

60 grit blue and 120 grit blue seems to work best for me on a slow speed.

I use a slow speed grinder. 80 grint on one side and 120 grit on the other. I use the 120 grit almost all the time.

I use a 36 grit for (re)shaping and a 120 for sharpening.
