View Full Version : Dyed aspen bowl

I received an aspen blank recently from Joe Melton...apparently he thought I deserved a second chance after blowing one of his blanks up during the exchange last summer. :p

The thing is, it was pink. :eek: As I understand it, dye was injected into the ground around the roots of the tree while it was still alive and ended up in the sapwood:

The walls are fairly thick: after the tenon broke (twice), I decided not to get greedy, but it's smooth inside, at least by my standards. Finish is buffed/waxed Seal-A-Cell.

Nice looking bowl Lee. That dyed aspen makes for some interesting looking wood.

Lee that form is so lovely, and I think it is so outstanding because of the simplicity. The contrasting color makes it attractive to me, also. Thanks for the post.
