I received an aspen blank recently from Joe Melton...apparently he thought I deserved a second chance after blowing one of his blanks up during the exchange last summer. :p
The thing is, it was pink. As I understand it, dye was injected into the ground around the roots of the tree while it was still alive and ended up in the sapwood:
65168
65169
The walls are fairly thick: after the tenon broke (twice), I decided not to get greedy, but it's smooth inside, at least by my standards. Finish is buffed/waxed Seal-A-Cell.
Thanks, Joe! At least I kept this one in one piece!
