I came into a Delta benchtop mortiser and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations on bits for the mortiser that are a good blend of reasonable price and good quality.

Thanks,
Chuck

Hi Charles,
I have the older version of the Delta mortiser that included a set of the import bits and they have actually worked quite well for me . I keep them sharp enough to be efficient and have performed well in both hard and soft woods. I also have several old, old, Delta brand bits that my father had, likely from the '50s, that worked just as well. For hobbiest stuff I would start with the imports, then move up prn.

Your entire mortising experience will be good if you have good quality, sharp bits. They make or break the whole deal.

I'll second that. A great mortiser is nothing without good sharp chisels.... on the other hand great chisels will make a so-so mortiser look good.
