How do people attach sacrificial fences to their RIP fence.
For example I see on Woodworks that DM has a wooden fence attached to his rip fence and wonder how he (or others) attach it?
I've got a Biese home-shop model fence and there are no attachment holes in the fence.
Also, any preferred type of wood for this?
thanks,
Jeff

There are a couple of options. 1: His Norminess has one that clamps on. 2: Then there are those that build one that slips over your regualar fence real tight or a couple of screws bolts that go through the back side of the sacrificial fence and tighten on the real fence. 3: I just drilled a couple of holes in my Beis. Put the bolts through the sacrificial fence through the real fence and tighten knobs.
I never said I was a proficiant exsplainer of things. Hopes this helps.

Jeff - You can use rare earth magnets to hold it down instead of drilling and using bolts.

I already drilled mine for the metal grip-tite fence board, so attaching a sacrificial fence with screws doesn't do any harm. That keeps me out of screwing around trying to figure out a "fence friendly" way of doing it.

I bought a pair of these at the Milwaukee Wood Show earlier this year. I made two auxillary fences that I attached with these clamps. Works like a charm with a little shimming to square things up.

I used plywood because of it's stability.

Mine slips over the exsisting fence tightly and is pretty heavy so I do not have to bolt it.

And I use the Fred Flintstone method: clamp the sacrificial fence on the business side and another piece of ply on the other side (so as not to wreck the fence face), with the clamps front and back and enough space for the work piece to get under them.

Beisemeyer sells a clamp-on auxillary fence. Here's mine.

I made a slip over fence so my magnetic feather boards would work for ripping. http://www.home.earthlink.net/~us71na/lsfence1.jpg I use a couple of toggle clamps on the back side to hold it in place, even though it fits tight enough that they aren't really needed. http://www.home.earthlink.net/~us71na/lsfence3.jpg
