The textured ring on this one was done with a Sorby texturing tool. Definitely a learning curve on that tool, but it's fun to use. Approx. 6 x 4; buffed seal-a-cell finish.

See, Mark, you post gorgeous stuff like this, and I post my third or fourth puny little bottle stopper. I'm not worthy.

I love this bowl!!!! The texturing just makes it.

Mark that is a beauty. I really like the wood and form. How is using that texturing tool? I have been thinking about one for lidded boxes. Nice work.

Bernie, the texturing tool is fun to use, but there is definitely a learning curve to it. The textures it can create are almost unlimited, since it creates a different one for each angle at which you hold it. Further, you can create deeper textures (like the one on this cherry piece) or lighter ones (like the YH piece in my other thread). The tool does want to "jump" or "skid" so you have to be aware of that when first presenting it to the spinning piece.

The other thing I should say about this tool is that in most situations I feel that using it would actually detract from the beauty of the wood itself, so in my thinking it is pretty much limited to pieces with plain figure.

I really like this HF Mark! The nice, simple form and great finish would have been enough but having the piece highlighted with a textured band really makes it unique. The textured area shows good tool control - nice work!

Great, Now you've given me another tool to lust after and convince LOML that I need. I may need to get another job just to support the vortex, guess I could turn at night, who needs sleep?:)

Nice job, very pretty HF

The texturing really makes the piece Mark, and I think you put it in just the right spot for the shape of the item.

Boy, yet another tool you guys have now shown me great work with that I want/need (is there a difference when it comes to turning?) to try out.

Keep up the nice work.
