When glueing up a double thickness counter top or other double-thickness sheet-piece (don't say that too fast...), here's a tip.

Make your pieces over-sized, say by 1/2" to 1" in both directions. Purposefully, glue them up offset to each other so that you maintain a straight edge on both pieces. These straight edges will ride on your tablesaw fence, allowing you to rip the excess off for a perfect, clean, crisp edge. But don't cut it undersized!

Todd.

I don't do much of this work, but will remember your tip. Thanks.

This is a good tip! You can also use a router with a template bit (straight with ball bearing) if the top is to big for the tablesaw.

If tops are already cut to identical size, you can use a couple of dowels as registration pins; put one in each corner.
