These are layered bowls, ala Jim MacPhail. I gave a couple of these as Christmas gifts and still haven't caught up with the requests that spun off from those....good thing they're easy. :p

Lee, excellent use of scrap materials; very nicely done! I enjoy doing glueups like this. I think yours are particularly nice, pleasing. Jude

All very nice...I think I like number three in the first batch and three and four in the second batch the best for some reason.

I am getting tired of saying it Lee, just beautiful.

Number two in the first batch and three and four in the second really stand out to me.

Lee these bowls are excellent!

I was kicking a layered bowl design around in my head, but don't really know how to go about it. You mentioned Jim Macphail, I searched for him and layered bowls but came up blank. Do you have a website that could get me started?

Lee,

Thanks for sharing. The are absolutely beautiful. While I doubt my skill will match yours, this method will certainly help whittle down my scrap pile.

They're all beautiful, but the second one (Canary, peruvian walnut, and spalted maple, 4-1/2"x1-3/4") is by far my favorite. I don't think I can tell you why, but the shape and the contrasts appeal to me the most.

Ditto what they said! Don't you just hate it when the other guy's scraps are lots better than your best stuff?

nice work, lee.

your last batch of work is impressive.

thanks for sharing the techniques used to laser cut and assemble the rings. that was awesome. wish i had a laser. maybe a scroll saw will be worth considering, though...

i've been impressed with the some of the segmented work that others have shown, but in my opinion, your layered bowls are more elegant - especially when altering dark and light woods and thin and thick layers.

all are very well done. i can see why they are popular requests.

so... when are you going to start selling pre-cut ring kits for the rest of peasants that don't have a laser? ;)
