These are updated pictures of my Rocker Cradle design. Based on a 1700's Windsor style "Nanny Rocker", it was updated with a modern style and influenced by the master himself, Sam Maloof.

Hope you all enjoy!:D

Now that would make one unique, Mother's day gift. I could not even imagine guest's reactions if they walked into my house and saw that rocking chair. Very cool and excellent work.

That is beautiful! Wonderful design. Sam would be proud!

Do have a question though. The seat is a long length. How did you support the cross grain configuration of the seat boards? Just the usual dowels as Sam does it? Concerned about it at all?

I am fortunate enough to know Sam Maloof personally. Would you mind if I showed him your pictures of this?

I know Sam personally as well, and he has already seen this piece. He was at the Western Design Conference, where the piece was exhibited.

The seat uses dowels for strength, like Sam's pieces. I've tested it to over 800 lbs. without breaking, so no, I'm not concerned.

Thank you for the kind words everyone.:D

Hi Scott,

Thanks for sharing. What you have produced will most surely make Sam proud - the lines in your rocker flow well and is organic like Sam's own work. The laminated rocker at the bottom looks just one of his.

Workmanship like this is clearly at the highest level only matched by equally gorgeous timber - well done!

So, how many hours did you invest in this piece?

The beauty of the design and the skill it would take to make something like that are just awesome to me.

Very, very nice chair! Looks like you have Sam's joinery down pat. I've been to a couple of his classes but not attempted to make one of his type of chairs.
How long did it take you? Did you you use Sam's oil finish?
You did a great job on it. Thanks for showing it!

Fantastic! Superb! Beautiful! Outstanding! I'm not worthy!

Incredible, simply amazing.

If I could only be half as good, I would be satified.

You're the man!

Please keep posting pics, so we can have more of your work to admire.
