This originally started out to be much taller but the wood was full of ring shake  so I kept turning until the cracks disappeared and this is what I ended up with. It was roughed to 3/4" thick, soaked in DNA and set out to dry for a month. One small crack appeared right in the middle of the side. :(

The bowl is 15 1/2" wide and 4" tall. Sanded to 1200, finished with BLO and carnauba wax. After looking at the pics I wish I would of rounded off the bottom a little bit more.

Excellent bowl! That wood sure has some nice grain brought out by the shape! You did an awesome job and you sure made that BLO finish look nice! Never could quite get that look with it!

That would be the vortex that is woodturning. ;) I have just been sucked in myself and it really is addictive.
Your bowl looks good to a beginner like me Shane. I just hope I can get to that stage sooner rather than later.

Excellent oreintation of the grain in the bottom of the bowl. When the rings of grain are centered in the piece the piece has a balanced feel. That's a cool look, a wonderful skill or wonderful accident regardless how you got there good job.

You've been banging out a lot of turning lately, your mower broke?

What everyone else said, I do like the rim and the shape. I think rounding off the bottom may change the balance ( sight not tipsy ) of the piece, the asian flavor is nice , matches the walnut very well . Keep it goin Shane.
