I just bought a pepper mill mechanism and a rosewood turning square 3 X 3 X 16 100% waxed. I measured the moisture content of the turning square, and it is over 20%. My questions are Do I bore and rough turn the rosewood blank, reseal and wait for it to dry, or wait for the blank to dry before I use it? Is there a way to safely speed dry this blank (I use DNA? for bowls). Does anybody have any suggestions for a novice at making pepper mills?

Thanks for the help.

Brian,
I have made several out of rose wood. I have had 1 crack in the body and several in the head. The best thing I found was to turn it close to final demensions, let it sit for a week turn out the small checks and finish. I have not ha the check a second time.
I will be posting one later tonight or tommorow.

Brian,
Go ahead and turn it to near final dimensions and soak it in DNA over night. I have done that and have had no problems. Actually, I only did it once, and had no problems.

Let's see it after you get it done.
