All beautiful work Mike! Lots to choose from...... the figured walnut sapwood really catches my eye but like the others the burl bowl is a must have! Really nice work!

Nice shape on the mesquite, it looks like the grain climbing upward, roses would be excellent in that one . The burl .... well not much tops a burl and a top notch job you did on that one and the stoppers .... I cant take much more of this . All very nice indeed Mike. ok now your head can swell a little .....:D , just a little;) .

Mike,
That stuff looks great, especially the BEB piece! I think you're like me in that you enjoy turning all kinds of stuff to keep it interesting.

BTW, did that BEB blank come from your buddies stash trucked from Utah? I contacted him about buying a piece or two but he wasn't parting with anything that was quite right for what I wanted.

Take care,
Dick

Dick,

I have so much to learn yet and doing a lot of different things and shapes I think helps me overall and keeps it fun.

Yeah all of the boxelder burl I turn comes from Jason. I still have a couple more pieces left but not to much.

Wow... those are all nice! I really like the shape of the mesquite piece! Simple but beautiful! Of course it is hard to beat a burl! That box elder looks gorgeous... excellent work! Did you actually use a finish on these or just beal buff???

Jonathon - They all are finished with a homebrew danish oil I have been playing with using the submarine method. Basically for the first coat I let the pieces soak in the danish oil for about 20 or 30 minutes then took them out let them sit for about 10 minutes and wiped them off with a clean rag. Let them sit overnight then rubbed out with a finishing pad and dipped them in the danish oil to thuroughly cover the surface and let sit 10 minutes and wiped dry. I repeated 4 or 5 times and then let them sit for about a week then buffed.

I have always used the equal parts poly, mineral spirits and blo formula in the past. This batch is heavier on the thinner and less on the blo. 1 part MS, about 1/2 part poly, and about 1/4 part blo.

I am very happy with the finish on the bottle stoppers and mesquite, not as happy with the finish on the Box Elder burl. I stick to almost all idiot proof finishing methods.
