Does anyone know if you can laser nickel plated brass (like keys)?..

I also own a locksmith store and would like to be able to laser my keys with my name & logo. Is this possible since the nickel is plated over the brass? If so, is there any precautions I need to know about?..

Thanks,

If at all, it would have to be with something like Cermark.

With Cermark, this is a yes. I've tried just running full-tilt laser vector like you would with stainless if you had no Cermark, that didn't fly. So far at 10/100/600dpi with Cermark I have a nice mark that I couldn't scratch off with my fingernail. Straight brass is touchier, still working that out. But the nickel plated keys are really nice. Now if someone would order a few hundred at .50 per key to make them worth while to do.....I should mention I'm not using standard LMM 6000, I'm using LMM 6038 (also called RD-6038), it's supposed to help with hard targets like chrome. So far it's ok, but I still have work to do to get good adhesion on brass.
