I just finished turning this weed pot and am just amazed at the wild grain on this piece of wood. I think it's really quite awesome.
Now, I hope there is someone here who knows something about ornamental olive. The last picture in this posting (the weed pot sitting on the shelf) is also turned from ornamental olive, in fact, the wood from both pots came off the same tree. This led me to thinking, is all that black stuff on the pot I just finished spalting? I've looked at it and looked at it and it just doesn't seem or feel like spalting to me. If it's not, however, why is the grain on the other pot not black colored?
If someone could shed some light on this for me, I'd really appreciate it.
