Went to my local Woodcraft today and in the bargain wood box this piece of wood just stood out. Don't know what kind it is but there was enough of it to make four pens. Cost me .50 for the wood. Not all four pens will have the two colors,the rest will be all red. The kit is slimline and it's gun metal color.

Dunno what the wood is... (I agree it does look like paduk), but the pen looks great! Wonderful work! I like the titanium kit - my favorite for looks!

Do you have any images a bit closer up? You can use the macro mode if your camera has it to take an extreme closeup. Paduak has a warm, spicy smell, and gets orange dust all over everything, so you'll probably know if it was that.

Very sharp looking, whatever it is.

I looks like Padauk with sapwood to me too.
I have made quite a few slimline pens out of it.
its a very light (weight) if I remember correctly
