My Dad dropped this off today. 13 years ago, when he was in Alaska he met a guy who collected these and made turnings out of them. Its been sitting on his back porch since then.

Anyone have any idea what kind of wood it is... and more importantly..what should I do with it? Im not sure I want to cut it it up.. but it might be interesting..and its got to be dry by now!

It is a black spruce burl. Very common in Alaska. I have one about the same size that I have had in my barn for 40 years. maybe I will make something out of it now that you have reminded me that it is there.

I'm glad some of the other guys were able to help you, 'cause I thought a polar bear had dumped on a branch.

Interesting..........a guy gave me one of those just last week. Mine looks a lot like a human heart in shape. Dont know whether to turn it or carve it.
