I've looked in my Wood Book, can't find this. Came from the West Coast, supposedly. I finished it for a base for a taxidermy mount.

Looks like big-leaf maple burl to me...

Yeah...looks like the burl version of birds-eye maple - I'm with Jim on this one.

Looks like the little pile of concrete left over after the driver cleans out the truck. To me anyway.

Since were hijacking the post I thought it looked like a well sanded turtle that went through a drum sander.:D

No wonder I heard so much sqealing from the drum sander!!;)
Thanks for all your replys. I guessed madrone initially, but when I looked it up, didn't look like the plates in my Wood Book. I'm kinda leaning to the maple burl myself. (Or a well sanded turtle.......):D

It looks almost exactly like one of the burls off my elms
