Does anyone know how to remove the dohicky that glues to the windshield to hold the rearview mirrow. Vehicle is a 97 GMC sonoma. The mirrow fell off yesterday and I can't the the dohicky separated from the mirrow.

Thanks, Stan

Mirror Spelling has never been a strong point.

Stan.....Welcome to the Creek!

I'd try scraping the adhesive off using a single edged rasor blade. If that doesn't work well, I'd try using different solvents starting with acetone (finger nail polish remover), alcohol. They also make an adhesive remover called "Goop off" if I remember correctly!

I reread you post, You might try a heat gun to get the adhesive to separate the mounting plate from the mirror.

It is off the windshield where the glue is. It is held in the mirror by spring clips that I can't remove.

Must be a Ford-- There should be a small hole at the edge where you can insert a small screwdriver to release the clips. :D

I finally got it off. I read everything i could find on the net ,and they all just said it was a pain. I finally resorted to the old Navy adage " (If at first you don't succeed get a bigger hammer)". It took three hands and brute force ,but it came loose without breaking.
