It's amazing what you can get out of a small block of wood!
Neal Addy and I had a little wood trade and this is what I turned from the piece he sent.
The blank was 4 3/4" X 3" and had a little problem area in the lite colored sapwood. It had a small crack that ran at least 1/2" deep and tapered off about half way down the blank. After studding the blank for a bit I decided to make one of the forms I had not made in a while and save the excess for a collar and finial trying to use every little bit I could of this beautiful little piece of wood.
Measures 7 3/4" tall with the finial, 4 1/2" tall without and 2 3/4" wide
No finish, just buffed.

What did Neal get? Looking forward to seeing what he makes with it too.

Great looking HF. I love the texas ebony, I have done a few things and it polishes like glass. I have been collecting the ebony waiting for an inspiring design. Good job!

Jim, that is a beautiful piece of art. I still can't get over your masterful use of resources. Nor the fact that you did a hollow form outta that stuff! It's so dense I haven't even thought about a HF yet.

Outstanding work! I tip my cap to ya, Sir!

Matt, I gotta say Jim is generous to a fault. He got this small piece of Tx Ebony and in return sent me two honkin' big pieces (Ambrosia Maple and Cherry). The little 'honey pot' beaded bowl I posted a few weeks ago came from the Cherry piece.

What can I say that hasn't already been said?

That's a wonderful piece and I really like it.

As my wife would say though... "What can you use it for?"

NO finish? What happened to that wonderful Poly Gel you always use?;)

I still like it though. It's very well done.

I think that's what's puzzling me though. She buys stuff to decorate the house with that is "just pretty" but still asks the question about these hollow forms.

She doesn't like globe and icicle style ornaments either, although I've turned some pretty nice ones. She does like the birdhouse ornaments though. Ya can never tell.

Jim, you're HOW old???? Haven't you learned yet that there's no future in trying to figure out how any woman's mind works, much less your own wife's. Just give it up, keep on making the hollow forms and sell them to those who appreciate them. If she just can't stand having this one around, you can send it to me.:p :D ;) I'll take good care of it!!!:D :D
