Well finally got to use the monster HF tool from Randy. Boy is it a joy to use. Sure makes hollowing a lot easier. Anyway I had a piece of wood I thought I would practice on before I started getting into it. It is wormy hickory and has a cedar collar. It is 6 1/4" tall and 5" across. It is finished with Minwax Antique Oil Finish and buffed. Walls are 3/8" thick. Came out better than I ever thought it would. The LOML already has plans for dried flowers on her desk at work. This is the finished product of the one I had shown on the lathe.

Bernie...excellent work! And that's not an easy form to hollow given the way the under-cut works. Nice!

Oh yeah!!! Looks like you and that Monster are gonna be good friends.

Neat form and I like the open collar. It says "go ahead and look inside, it's finished too".

Thanks for the comments. I appreciate it. I wasn't sure how it was going to turn out at least with this being the first time on the captured HF tool. I was really pleased that it turned out like it did. Now the next one is a piece of walnut from Mark Cothren. The walnut he sent is awesome and I didn't want to ruin it.

Great looking HF Bernie and the cedar collar is a nice touch.
Whats the monster HF tool? I must of missed that post. I have been wanting to get or make a captured rig. After a couple of hours hollowing my elbows kill me.

Shane, Google on "Monster Wood Tools". Their hollowing rig is on the bottom of their "Tool Rests" page.

Great job you are making it hard for me to not get the hf tool and the termite tool they both are looking very interesting. I love the cedar treatment.

Ken you had better get on the stick and get one of the HF tools. You won't regret it.

Bernie this is absolutely a great HF. I like the form. Sure doesn't look like a "practice" piece. Can't beat "Monster Tools". They are great products and great customer service.

Randy I was beginning to wonder to but with the wife's dad in bad shape well you know what is going to wait. Anyway had a ball with it and hopefully will get to do that big piece of walnut from Mark Cothren.

Yep Keith the monster is a beautiful and extremely easy to use tool. Thanks again.
