Very nice work, Stan. Pretty heart shape on the form. I especially like the grain orientation in the first pic.

Great first HF! What did you use to hollow it with?

I would certainly have never guessed that this was your first HF. That is beautiful. Nice form, and I like what you did with the collar.

That's a really good looking piece. I never knew lignum vitae looked like that. The collar is unique as well.

Stan, you get an A+! That's absolutly beautiful and the top is elegant and unique. If this is your first I can't wait to see your work a year from now. Nice, very nice.:)

WOW!! I have a feeling, when I try my first one, in a few years, it won't look that good.

Gorgeous piece, Stan! I used a stopper blank of LV to make an Easter Egg Kaleidoscope for my kids and I absolutely fell in love with the grain of that wood. I went through a ton of sandpaper that got clogged up like crazy, but it felt like glass and positively shimmered in the light, even before finishing. I then finished it with the CA/BLO that I use for pens and it looked spectacular (bragging on the wood, not my skill). Unfortunately, a few days later, the finish looked splotchy and mostly dull. It was then I heard that LV is oily and I should have wiped it down with DNA before finishing. Oh well, as soon as I get the time, I'm going to go back and see if I can correct the problem.

Would you share with us how you finished your HF? It looks great in the photos, and I'm sure it looks even better in person!

The finish is BLO and buffed and the size is approximately 3-1/2" diameter by 3-1/2" high.
