OR......How do you get someone to look ahead while you stand behind and SHOVE them into the Abyss?.....the Vortex?.............

I got a call last week from a fellow Creeker and Lewiston resident Joel Sauter. He's coming over this afternoon to see the Bomb and the infamous Diving Board....I plan on showing and letting him do some turning.....I'm thinking a bottle stopper would make a great first project as it's finished quickly after he gets a little spindle / bonker time in.....what say ye?

Ken,

I say that you are an instigator of the first degree---aren't you ashamed of being the instrument of another person's fall into the abyss?;) I hope you told him to take a picture of his money cause he'll never see it again (I think I swiped that line from you:p ). I also hope that he realizes how much trouble he's in--now that all of his "spare" time will be standing in front of the lathe.

Yea Nancy Mr. Fitz is the biggest instigator. You have to keep a eye on him all the time cause he will pounce when you least expect it.;):p

Way to go Ken. I think once you let him do a bottle stopper there won't be any stopping for him. Once you get him hooked give him the infamous line.

"Take a picture of your money cause it will be gone":D:p

I think I would go a different route and mount a big wet blank and show him how fun it is to throw big fat curly shavings all over the place. (Guess what I've been doing?):D

Ken, I did that to a fellow worker and now he is as hooked as a steel headgoin up stream in Oct. His wife is not mad at me but she told me she gets all the turnings ( he turned in hs 10 yrs ago) and he gets to clean the shop....

Well...........Joel and I spent the afternoon and early evening....He did some spindle work....beads ...coves.........a bonker of sorts.....

And then boys and girls.....I give you Joel and his first completed project...a bubinga bottle stopper..........I'd say he did a bang up job! What say ye?.................

I would have said he did a bang up job but you stole that line. So I'll say he did a great job. Have you used the bottle stopper he made and have you used one of those that has 3 o-rings? Do they both work well? Plus, what finish did he use - it looks nice.

Holy Cow Ken the kid is a natural. That is a awesome stopper for just turning the first time. I really like the wood and the form. Tell him nice work.

John.....I've not used either...I don't drink wine....I've sold a number of these and have just recently purchased some SS from Ruth Niles. These were some I had left from some I sold around Christmas.

The finish.....well it's actually a finishing procedure I came up with....frictioned extremely light coat of BLO......then a couple coats of Zinssers Sealcoat dewaxed shellac frictioned....then a couple coats of Deft brushing lacquer......Beal buffed.

And yes Bernie.....that's me EVIL!.....no more Mr. Niceguy! ;) :o

So how many people have signed your "diving board" due to a visit and a test drive on "the bomb"? If you haven't got any signatures....then you need to start. ;)

Dennis.....while I'm sure those who've turned on the Diving Board mounted Bomb would be happy to autograph it.....They generally are just happy as can be to have survived it!  :D

Very nice of you Mr. Fitz to take that young man & show him the fastest
way known to man to spend his money! Did you give him any pointers
on how to hide certain tool purchases from the Boss?
