A used Minimax FS 41 J/P is for sale in my area. This is the 16" model and looks to be in good condition. What would be a fair price for this unit? Any things to look for before buying one of these tanks? Thanks for any advice.

I cannot tell you a specific price but a few things to consider. Did it belong to a hobbiest? Or was it used in a professional shop. Is it close to you so you can pick it up? Freight can really get you on these things. Maybe 300-500 dollars plus liftgate fees. You can see price of a new one on the MM site. If it is your area and in good condition it would be worth more than someone buying it sight unseen and having to ship it.

I try to get used equipment for 1/2 price of new, or less. This includes MiniMax of similar vintage to the one you posted . . .

dan,

emailed a guy that had the same j/p for sale on ebay a couple of months ago. it looked like it was in good condition but had been used in a commerical shop (he said it had at most 500 hours on it). he said that mini max told him it was worth $5500. this machine is/was in montana.

Be sure the motor voltage conforms to your shop. A lot of this equipment is 3-phase. And having to buy a Baldor 5 HP motor could cost you $400.
