Got this slab of wood from Ernie Nyvall - he found it at the bottom of the pond while he was mowing. Thanks Ernie!

Roughed, soaked in DNA, dried and finish turned. Antique oil finish.

13" wide and stands 1-1/4".

I sounds odd to say it but, that is a beautiful crotch. I like the form and the their is something about the thin foot you have on it that I really like. A very classy piece.

Mark, this is an absolutely gorgeous piece, and I'm so envious of whoever gets this piece I could just die. It's classic in form, the figure is beautiful, and I want it!! Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! My lower lip is now sticking out far enough for an elephant to sit on.

I like it Mark. It is beautiful. I am happy that you applied a satin sheen rather than gloss.

Please pardon my ignorance, What is DNA, what does it do and where is it sold?

Regards,

Chris

That's a great looking platter. The figure is amazing.
The only thing I'm wondering is what Ernie was doing mowing the bottom of a pond.

Fantastic Mark. I love the finish and clean form! I have 8 huge pieces of walnut, 4 of which are crotch. I hope I get something this nice out of them.

I hope ya don't mind but I would love to copy your form. I can knock out bowls and HFs all day long but for some reason I REALLY struggle with a pleasing form of a platter.

Heck, this ain't "my" form... help yourself... but I can tell you there are a ton of other platters with lots better detail/shape/form out there to copy from... do a little searching in this forum and you'll see some.

The only thing I'm wondering is what Ernie was doing mowing the bottom of a pond.

Brett, it is something a few misfits made up a while back. I have no clue what they are talking about, and there are certainly no pictures of me pinned under my lawn mower in a pond. Ignore them.

Please pardon my ignorance, What is DNA,

DeNatured Alcohol.

Here, I googled SMC and found this thread (http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?referrerid=5960&t=40698) which discusses it.

Lovely work, Mark! And yeah, mowing the bottom of a pond? :D

Mark, that's one beautiful platter! They just don't get any better!

Shane, as Mark's agent I'd be glad to offer you limited rights to use his form provided the appropriate royalties are rendered. Please submit the funds to me and I'll see that Mark gets them. ;)

Ernie, don't pay any attention to them. We don't believe everything we hear. Oh, BTW... seeing as summer and the mowing season are here again I'm sending you a snorkel.

Mark, it is beautiful!!!! Unfortunately for me I made a huge mistake and showed it to my wife, and guess what? She says, well can't you make me one like that? She'll have to do with an approximation, as I'm sure I won't be able to match yours.

Shane, Its not that easy. You have to throw the walnut in Ernies pond for awhile and he'll fetch it out when its ready!
