Please help me find a finish for black palm

One of the things that I like about black palm is that some faces have a nice bird's eye pattern of dark dots on a nearly white background. However, I can't find a finish that preserves this color. Everything I've tried turns the white background orange. So far, I've tried wiping varnish, blonde shellac, and lacquer.

John...Hopefully you've got some scrap to practice on.....try a water based poly.....It may raise the grain a bit and require some minor sanding? Good luck!
