Hello,
I have googled and searched all different ways and found a couple of companies that sell office chair mechanisms, but neither company is selling quite what I desire.
I am looking for someone that sells mechanisms for office chairs that can elevate and tip. Does any one have any recommendations?
I can't start making the chair until I have the mechanism.
Thanks for the input.
Kyle

Kyle,
Mike Henderson was building a similar chair last year and had a post about looking for similar parts. You'll find 2 links in his thread to check. Maybe Mike will see this and post what he ended up doing?

You can get the mechanism from Van Dyke Restorers (http://www.vandykes.com/product/02355058/). The problem is that they only offer a four leg bottom and a five leg is safer. I got a five leg component from swivel chair parts .com (http://swivel-chair-parts.com/GlossaryPage.html)
I can also offer some tips on the design of a swivel chair if you want - contact me via PM.
Mike
[added note] If you want to see a picture of the chair I made, see my website (http://members.cox.net/h-h.woodworks/mikes_projects.htm).

Paul,
I would but there are no stores like that on my island.

Mike,
Thanks, swivel chair parts was one of the ones I was familiar with. I have ordered from Van Dykes before but didn't even think to look at them, duh. I might take you up on sending you a note once I have a chance to sit down and think for a moment.
Thanks,
Kyle

If you are only building one or two, it looks more cost effective to just buy complete chairs and use those parts...joe
