My wife commissioned me to make eight benches or stools to help her decorate a table for a charity event that was this evening. Since she insisted that I upgrade my table saw last month, I really could not argue.

So, this weekend, I put together four benches from a silver maple that I cut down two years ago and four from random boards that were left over from when our barn was re-built back in the 1950's (big stack of old wood behind the milking stalls).

Below is a picture of the four maple benches still in the process of being sprayed with some garnet shellac (my first attempt using my HF HVLP on a "larger" project). I think the grain really looks great, and I think the live edges and mortise and tennon joinery worked out well.

Below are the benches used in the table decoration. This was my first large project using mortise and tennon joinery. It's not exactly fine woodworking, but I really enjoyed the process.

Good job. I picture them in a log cabin.

Those are great. I especially love the natural edges.
