Very, very nice! Is it a gift? If so, someone will be pleased.

Outstanding finish! Love the detail work - very clean! Wood grain really speaks on this one. Very nice work!

Jason, I remember when you mentioned this project a few months ago and it turned out great. Should make your wedding day even more special. I agree that the finish is excellent.

Man, that's a beauty Jason! You've done a great job on that. Do you have any plans for it? Like going to a judge or something.

Thanks everyone for the compliments.

Ben has a good memory but for those who asked...This will be presented to my friend who is a judge and will be performing my wedding ceremony in a couple months.

As for plans...I used the excellent tutorial on www.turnedtreasures.com (http://www.turnedtreasures.com) (I did not thread the handle) as well as received some advice from people in my turning club.

Beautiful job. I love the way that Kingwood finishes. My son got me a piece of it for Christmas one year and I made a couple weed pots out of it. I hope that is a calm judge as it seems almost a shame to beat it on the whatever you call that poundee piece.

Joel, two beautiful pieces. I too hope that the judge is calm, cool, and collected. I'd hate to see either piece with pound marks on it!

Rich,

I liked the Kingwood a lot also. I found it to be much like cocobolo to work but easier to sand/finish since it's not nearly as oily.

Outstanding! That is a beauty! Very nice detail work on the handle. I'd be willing to bet that this judge will show those around and you'll soon have requests for more.

Beautiful job Jason. I'm not meaning to take away from anyone elses work with this comment, but that has to be the nicest gavel I've seen! The wood is "alive" and the detail is outstanding!!!
