I am using T bolts in a 5/16 - 18 size for my different jig for the TS, router and drill press. The one problem I have is the head will turn and then I have to mess with it to get it in the t track.

Well I am sure I am not the first person on SM that has come up with this but I could not find anything in the search for it.

What I do is drill a small hole in the T Bolt head, just a little more then a clearance hole for a small nail. Now I put the t bolt in the hole of my jig and put a nail in the jig, the cut it off just a little shorter then the depth of the T Track.
Now I have no problem, slide it off and slide it right back on and never have to touch the head of the t bolt.

I use a forstner bit and drill two recess holes, then use a chisel to connect them making an oval for the head to sit in. This only works where it is OK for the head to be recessed.

But you can't use that in a t track can you?
My EB-3 has T tracks on the top and sides and this is were I use it the most. My router fence also has T Track on the top of it and I have stop blocks set up for it.

Bill,

Very clever indeed. I sometimes find my self contorted trying to reach under a jig to align the bolts, never again.

Oops, sorry Bill. I misunderstood. You're keeping the head in position to enter the t-track. Very cool idea indeed!

I just file a flat or two flats in the thread at the very end of the bolt that are aligned with the head. I leave enough thread so the star nut will still easily thread on/off the bolt without cross threading.

I am always looking for an easier way but I am not sure I understand how it works.

How will the flats at the end of the bolt keep the head from turning and getting cross ways of the T Track?
