Since oak seems to be the flavor of the week, here's an upside-down bowl with its first coat of poly applied. It's a pleasing form, though the color is a bit shy of what it might have been had it been cut fresh. As you can see, it spent some time in the log, enough to color the sapwood overall, and spalt the downside.

It is, however, a red-letter day for me. The roof stopped dripping melt water this morning in the NE exposure. Nothing but shingles - finally!

Nice bowl, George. What kind of log is that in the background? Some neat-looking bark there...

It's a cherry log, and it hasn't snowed in over a week! Just out working the drive back to a crown for water shedding in the summer, rather than the flat snowplowing winter confiuration, and actually worked up a sweat. The thermometer says 65 degrees!!!!!

George that is a beauty. I really like it. We had snow in Kansas last Friday believe it or not. Didn't last long though with the temps. The day it snowed it was 33 deg and the next day it was 57 deg.

Wow -- that is one good looking piece, George. The form is organic and the finish looks excellent as well. Kudos on the grain orientation as well!

Great bowl. I really like the shape. What is the size, foot detail and how thick is it?

Ah, the "technicals." It's six high, eight wide and a bit less than a quarter , tapering out to a bit over half inch around the bottom. Though it has a 2.5" understanding, I wanted little chance to tip, so kept that CG low over going thin all the way.

The bottom has not been re-turned. It's a 2 x 1 7/8 recess flattened for standing up and sanded for smooth. I found folks were not offended by oval marks in such pieces, and quit jamming to re-turn immediately.

George, I like the curve on this one, and the way this NE shows off the beautiful grain of the wood, really nice...
