This end grain hollow form ended up about 8" tall and about 7-1/2" wide. It is from a huge Hackberry tree that some folks had taken down in their backyard. They let me salvage a few chunks (a truckload ;)) from it before it was removed.

Wow now that is a HF. The grain on that piece is outstanding. I like the form and finish Mark. Nice job.

Mark that is a beautiful piece of wood. The form really accentuates the grain pattern. Thanks for sharing.:)

The curves on this one are as near perfection as one can get. I like that hackberry.

I was wondering how hackberry was to turn. I've got lots of them in the area and I'll keep an eye out for some.

Nice job on the HF. Looks great.

What a gorgeous piece! This picture

looks similar to Keith's alien pot of a while back--will yours show the eyes with a light in it??

I have a piece of hackberry crotch that Ed Breen gave me when I was in Muskogee a few weeks ago. I'm saving it for something special, after I get past the learning curve on stoppers and start in on bowls/vases etc. I don't think I'll ever make it to HFs, but one never knows, does one?

I really like this, Mark, and that little collar really sets it off.

FYI... the rest of the story... I chucked this one back up and got rid of the collar/shoulder after some feedback/suggestions.

Mark, Both are great pieces. Anyone would be proud to own either one, or both. What make hollowing system/tools did you use? I am thinking about the choices and variables. Please enlighten us all. Thanks, Phil

Mark....I like both versions of this HF but I have to admit I find this last one more pleasing to the eye. Now that I can look at both, the collar on the first one, again just my opinion and my opinion is worth just what you are paying for it, detracted from the lines and beauty of the overall piece. The new version has a more flowing appearance to my untrained opinionated eye.

Mark, I also like the last picture best. I think it is because I am accustomed to seeing it this way or it may be my eyes and brain like the lines to flow as the grain patterns flow. What ever the reason I like it best.

Very nice work Mark! Love the form on the last version! Interesting how the grain lines seem to blur into each other.

I guess I'm in the decided minority here. I like the first one better. Humpf!!

When I mention Hackberry to people they saw "You turn THAT junk?"

You have shown us all why I tun it. LOVELY!
