I have not posted in a while so I wanted to let you all know I have been working. This is a small pear bowl with a rolled lip. I do not know the species of pear, but it is the type which produces the hard type. I call it the old timey pear tree. The finish is lacquer and then buffed. Your comments and critiques are solicited, and appreciated.

Very nice indeed Glen. Of course the next logical step would be to make a "pear" shaped HF.

Ooooooh! I love it - the wood, the form, the finish. The grain pattern in that wood is just spectacular.

Ok Glen, I have to be real honest with you. Where did you hide the blemish? I can't find it. How can we critique what we can't find? I like the form and wood and the finish is great. I would say you hit a home run with this one. Great Job!!:)

How did you keep the pear wood from cracking. I've roughed out 6 bowls, DNA's part and LDD'd the rest and nearly everyone has cracked as they began to dry. I turned them down to about 1/2 inch thcikness before treatment. Do I need to go thinner to begin with? Thanks Perry

Perry, I turned 8 of these pear bowls and left them about .75 inch thick, dried them in DNA, and this is the only one with out a crack in it. I was able to turn out some of the cracks in the others. The wood is so appealing to me I keep turning and finishing them cracks and all. Thanks for all of you for your comments.
