I'm building a chest of drawers for my son, the drawer material is 1/2" baltic birtch, do you guys finish these or leave them alone?? If you do finish them what do you use?

Personally I would just leave them alone. If you opt for a finish, consider the residual smell and maybe use something water based to avoid odor

If I finish drawers, it's with water borne acrylic or shellac. But it's not absolutely required and many folks don't.

Not normally.
If I do, I use lacquer

I'll vote for shellac. Oder dissipates quickly, organic, and risistant to moisture. Just don't put leaky boze bottles in the drawer. Shellac is disolved by accohol.

Wax, wax, wax. Just plain old paste wax. And lots of elbow grease. :p

P.S. Be sure you roundover the edges around the top of the drawer for no more splinters.

I apply 2-3 coats of WB spray lacquer. I use 1/2" Birch for construction and edge band all top edges.

Shellac, just apply until you start getting a build (you'll notice some gloss) and then rub it out lightly with a scotch brite pad
