I just thought this #3 was to good to pass up at $35.

I am going to have fun cleaning up this user.

That looks like a later model, maybe war years. The non-rosewood knob and tote might make it a bit less attractive to some woodworkers but it should be a excellent user. Congratulations.

Nope, not WWII, that's a bonafide type 18, right after the war. A nice type really; thick castings, brass hardware, and the beech doesn't look to bad stripped of that nasty paint and with a couple coats of oil.

Item P2 - Stanley No. 3 Smooth Plane. Type 17 (1942-45)
This smooth plane was almost surely produced right at the end of the wartime period. It has the heavy side walls and stained hardwood handles of that era, but the brass blade adjustment knob and the frog adjustment screw have been restored after the wartime shortages. This plane is missing some finish from the handles. But there are no cracks or chips in them. About 90 percent of the original japanning is in the bed, and the blade is very long and clean. It will tune up to be a great user plane. A good value. Good+
