I have an Osborne EB-3 miter gauge. The bottom of the fence has gotten scraped up over the years and when I started using it on new saw it scratched the table a little. I lightly sanded it which helped but it doesn't slide as well as it use too (the tuna doesn't taste as good as it use to) sorry. I have been unsuccessful in finding a new fence for that miter gauge. Anyway, has anyone ever used the Anti-friction UHMW sel-adhesive tape? Does it stick good and stay? I'm wondering if putting that on the bottom of the mitergauge fence would be a good thing. Any input?

I have used the self adhesive UHMW tape on sveral items. It sticks really well. If the edge catches, it may peel off. I applied a piece to the side of my miter gage bar to get rid of the side play and it has been there for several years. I also have a strip on the bottom edge of my fence cover since I misjudged the thickness of the steel plate mounted on it.

I've used the wide stuff on the sole of my circular saw. I cleaned the sole plate with alcohol, applied the UHMW, rolled it like it was veneer and clamped it overnight. It has yet to peel.

I use it on the underside of my crosscut sled and it works very well. I also put it on the skid of my jigsaw to prevent scarring.

Paul, I have used this tape for drawer glides in several pieces of furniture. They have been in place and subject to use for over 7 years not with no peeling.

Thanks for the responses. Sounds like a fix for my miter gauge. I'll give it a try.

Sorry for the lack of knowledge, but is the UHMW the white slick material that I saw at the WW show that is used for fences, etc? Where do you get the double sided tape? Thanks in advance. Tommy

Tommy,

No apologies needed! UHMW is ultra high molecular weight plastic (the slick white stuff you saw) It is very durable, with very low friction. It is available in a roll form similar to tape, with adhesive on one side. http://www.hartvilletool.com/product/10871

Couple of other sites that have UHMW tape.
-------------------------

Only 1" wide strip.

http://www.leevalley.com/wood/page.aspx?c=2&p=32182&cat=1,110,43466
-------------------------

3" wide and 3/4" wide.

http://www.woodcraft.com/family.aspx?familyid=902
-------------------------

I like to have as many sources as I can find, so I can tie it in with any order I have, to save on postal costs.
I should also like to add that these strips have been put on the platen of belt sanders,
to help reduce the friction on the backside of the sanding belts, so the adhesive must be working.

I purchase mine from http://www.cshyde.com/ . What I like about them is the absolutely incredible selection and high quality adhesives. You aren't limited by just what a woodworker store has on their shelves. It is particularly helpful to me since my closest woodworking store is a 3-1/2 hour drive anyway.

You can get double sided tape here:

http://www.hartvilletool.com/product/10813

They also have 2" wide. Most tool places carry it, Lee Valley, Rockler, woocraft, Highland tool

Steve you are correct about C S Hyde. What a selection, it is overwhelming!

Yes I think you fixed it, I had the same problem with the the EB-3 when I got it, it came with a strip of tape but I had not put it on the bottom of the bar. I notice that I was getting some scratches on the top of the saw and could not figure out what was causing it.
I then added the tape and that took care of it.

Good luck....

I just receive an e-mail back from Dave Osborne! My parts list doesn't match his but we are working on it. I think the fence is $37. If I can get it I will replace mine. Besides the scuffed up bottom, there are a few cuts in it that look like the width of a saw blade... hmmm how did that happen?:) I see that they sell the UHMW tape just for the bottom of this miter gauges at the Osborne site. Little more expensive from them.

Wow, you weren't kidding about the incredible selection. Thanks for the link. I'm sure I'll be using them for something I need when I can't find it locally.
