Hi All,

What photo editing software do you recomend? I have some pics that even on email mode on the camera are too big to post here.:( The software that came with my camera ( Canon A620) doesn't seem to be very helpful. It is nice to reduce red eye and crop but can't seem to get it to recude the image size easily nor as much as I need to.

Thanks

I use Adobe Photoshop for all my photo work but it is very expensive. Adobe sells a version that doesn't have all the bells and whistles for around $100. I don't remember the name of it. I have heard that it will do almost everything photographers need.
There is other software out there that will do what you want but I haven't
any experience with it.

Charles, there is a free download program called PixResizer that will resize your pictures to post. Check out google.

Here is the website of Pixresizer. Very simple program to use, takes up a minute amount of memory and has never let me down.

Paint Shop Pro 8 is very good, has a so-so manual though. PSP for Dummies makes up for it.

PSP has a few forums and on-line tutorials for help.

Us laserheads use Corel Draw and it comes bundled with Corel Paint. If you're leaning towards Photo/graphics you can't beat this combo and Corel's support is unrivaled.

If you need just the basics, for the price of a PSP type program, buy a $100.00 scanner. They usually come with a starter program that will get you going, and the scanner will be 'free'.

If your using Windows, there's a new Powertoy application on MS website. It works inside Windows Exporer and resizes (most) any graphics file quite nicely.

I happen to like Adobe Photoshop Elements. (version 5 now) It's under a hundred bucks, especially after rebates that come along and offers a lot of what the pro version does in an easy to use package. If I didn't already own Photoshop Elements, I might be using Picasa, but have not bothered to try it at this point.

Thanks Ken, I racked my brain last night and "Photoshop Elements" just wouldn't come out.
With my experience with Photoshop and what I have read about Elements I would recommend it to anyone wanting to do more than just the basics with photographs. I use Photoshop because I got it at a very good price but I only use a very little bit of its capabilities and will eventually switch to Elements. My version of Photoshop is 5.5. I believe that version 9 is getting outdated. That will give you an idea of how old my version is.

I have Adobe Photoshop (an older version) but hardly ever use it. HP bundled an editor (Image Zone) with my laptop PC that does pretty much any thing I've needed to do and is pretty easy to use.

If you're using Windows XP this is about the easiest thing around for resizing pictures. This is Microsofts free 'powertoys' page for Windows XP. The image resizer powertoy on this page couldn't be simpler. You can do one or multiple pics just by right-clicking on the file in Explorer. It adds the word 'small/medium/large' to the file name depending on which size you chose to shrink to or you can choose to have it saved under the same name if keeping the original isn't important. It ONLY does pic resizing, so if you need to crop or adjust color/brightness/etc, it's not the right tool.

Charles,

I use Corel Photo Paint and can do lots of stuff. I use this for my hobby business. If you are looking for a basic program, good for organizing, good for e-mail etc...don't hesitate to download http://picasa.google.com/ free of charge.

Compupic from Photodex (www.photodex.com) is cheap and is a great little photo manipulator. It'll re-size, crop, and reduce density among other things just fine and is nowhere near as sophisticated or lard to learn as Photoshop.

I have Photoshop, and Illustrator and used to use Corel Draw. I like photoshop a lot and Illustrator is fun but hard to learn.
