View Full Version : Todays Turning ... Walnut Bowl

This is the first time I have turned walnut and compared to the rock hard burl I have been working with lately it was like cutting butter. I was thrilled at how easy it was to work, very nice wood. :D

A simple little bowl about 6 inches in diameter, sanded to 1200 grit, finished with BLO and CA, polished and buffed with white diamond and carnauba wax.

Just remember to use a filter mask of some sort if you do more walnut turnings. Some poeple have allergic reactions to the dust.

Good advice... lots of people are allergice to walnut dust or become allergic! Better advice is to wear a respirator with all turnings. They are finding bad effects from prolonged exposure to saw dust.

About the bowl... another excellent turning! The wood is beautiful and I really like the shape! Your turning skills are awesome!

I agree with what everyone else has said, that's a great shape and some nice wood. I've seen that shape of bowl referred to as a "Calabash". I think that's a neat sounding word for that great shape of a bowl.

I also think you must have been born with the turning gene. You sure seem to have a natural touch.
