Hello out there:

OK - I took my splitter and blade guard off of my Powermatic 66. I found it a nuisance. I also use a thin kerf blade on my saw.

Have seen a lot of articles lately on Sawmill that suggest I had better put safety first so am looking for suggestions to use on the PM66 with a thin kerf blade.

Looking at splitter, guard and some type of overhead dust collection. Of course, looking to get out of this with as little expense as possible. My wife no longer works, so will need to take this out of retirement funds.

Ed,

Why not build what you need. I have a home made zero clearance insert with a glued in splitter that works great. I learned this trick in a wwing class I took taught by Kelly Mahler. It's just oak with a saw kerf in the rear with another oak piece glued in it. I have a couple of screws on the side to snug it up in the opening and a finishing nail glued in the back to keep that secure. Here is a pic of the insert.

I also built my overarm guard from plans available on Wood Online. Really simple and works great.

I probably don't habve $50 in the entire setup.

Have a good Christmas,

Nice Terry. Looks like I need to get started on bettering my TS setup.

I got my new switch for the Robland today as well as the new switch for the Performax. I now have them both back in running shape. Yeah!!!

My safety equipment is not up to Terry's level, but it was relatively cheap, so here goes. I use a Biesemeyer splitter, sorry no thin kerf, but I really like my Systimatic saw blades. I made my blade cover using extra heavy square tubing and aluminum tubing. I got the idea from a couple of articles on Badger Pond. The tubing slide is a larger size of tubing. With the lexan blade cover and a welder it think that it was around $100 (splitter not included.) I am venturing a picture to see if it will help. Yes, I know that I need to add a hose to the blade cover, and no, it is not a cabinet saw. The mess is because I made a mallet from purpleheart. I am attaching a pic of it also. Good luck
