Excellent work Adam! BTW your thread title got my curiosity up; I was expecting a story about you and the LOYL using your new lathe.:p

I reaslly like the platter its beautiful. Is the top rim textured then blackened? What are using to blacken the rim?

Those are awesome pieces! The first one has some amazing grain/figure. The texturing and the dyed rim is really cool! The marblewood bowl is awesome... don't think I have heard of the wood! Amazing color! The pen is also gorgeous! Awesome work there!

Thanks!

Yeah, the rim was first textured (sorby) then dyed using Transtint jet black. I didn't dilute the dye, used it straight from the bottle. After that, I made an ultra light pass with a gouge to clean up the edge so the color looks clean and sharp.

The maple is local. A rare find.

All good stuff, but that Maple piece just blows me away!

That maple piece is just awesome - I love that grain and the look of texture. Is the color on that marblewood accurate in the picture? I've never heard of that before. Pretty pieces.

I can't say I'm fond of the snakewood pen - I think it's the "snake" part of it that gives me the willies - I have an aversion to creepy and crawly things.  I like the style of the pen, but I wouldn't even be able to pick that one up in my hand...that's how bad I am.

Nice looking wood and a good job turning and finishing. Now that your lathe is used and you need a new one, I'll take it off your hands (and I won't even charge you ;) ) to help you make space for a new one.

Very nice Adam, looks like a home run for sure. Are you sure you are not taking lessons from Travis and whatshisname with the segmented stuff and a bout a half doz hundred other people, nicely executed indeed???:D
