I have a Maka M6-11 mortising machine on hold.
The machine has an oscilating chisel with an overhead D handle to advance the cutterhead. Correct voltage for my shop and I can pick it up locally. Has a pneumatic clamp system. Machine appears to be in excellent condition.

Why? eventually, I hope to make some traditional furniture for my girls, and this machine looks interesting.

I have absolutely no experience with mortisers but this one would be easy for me to get and try out.
Price will be under $500.
Should I buy it?

Thanks,
Rob

At that price I would. What little I know about them impresses me. Just check to see that there is a ready supply of the cutters to be had.

Thanks Paul,
Has anyone used an oscillating chisel mortiser?
Do they work well?
Can I get parts for a MAKA mortiser?

Hi Rob. I never used or seen one work but a guy at work says they are nice to have and use. He use to do a lot of machining for furnitur factories around here befor the drag raceing bug go thim and he moved off to Cali. He told me about them and at 500 it seems like a steal....

A friend of mine brought up the topic of Festool's Domino Kit. Pricey but it sure looks like a versitile tool. Now I'm wondering about stationary tools vs. these little hand-held mortisers. Any opinions you care to share?
Here's a review of the Domino.

Nah. That Domino is overrated and no good. Too expensive too.

I found one on the web:

I've never seen one but it looks like an interesting machine.

Rob

I have a Powermatic mortiser and just recently got a domino. The uses are quite different, and can be complementary. If you were going to compare something, I'd say a full-scale mortising setup like the Leigh FMT or the WoodRAT would be a better comparison. Of course, it all depends on your intended usage.

Thanks for the link Bruce. Mine is just like that except mine is on a floor stand. I went ahead and bought it but not powered it up yet.
