Hi All,
As a hobbiest, and a somewhat frugal one at that, I finally broke down and had some blades sharpened: two sets of 12" HSS planer blades(for a Parks) one set of 8" HSS jointer blades, two 60 carbide tooth combo blades, and one 30 carbide tooth ripping blade. The shop I used is a serious machine shop that does mostly commercial and industrial sharpening and machining. They did a great job and I'm pleased with the service, but was a bit surprised at the cost. The planer blades were $6.70 each, jointer blades $5.55, 60 tooth @$23.70 each, and the rip was $17.50. I was able to drop them off and pick up in one week, so no shipping. Does this seem like a competitive price? The TS blades are Freud but I'm not sure if they cost that much new 10 years ago!! Thanks for the info. John.

John,
The prices for the sawblade sharpening sound about right. I have paid more for sharpening planer and jointer blades so the price for those sounds really good.

I just paid $15 to have 3 6" jointer knives sharpened, and $10 each for a 50 tooth combo blade, and a 24 tooth rip blade.

Blade prices are about right. Knife prices were a bargain.

Your price are about the same as mine for the TS blades and much cheaper than what I get for planer/jointer blades.

I have the local omish(sp) sharpen mine. 6" jointer blades $2.50 each, 12 1/2" Planer blades $4.00 each, 10" 60 tooth blade $12.50.:D It is nice to have them right around the corner. They do not charge much and they come out just as good as any other place, place they have them done within three days.
