We have been doing a painted kitchen in the shop in antique white. We used quite a bit of mdf (medium density fiberboard) I thought I'd glue some up and try turning it, and this is what I came up with. It has 3 coats vinyl primer, 2 coats antique white enamel, van dyke brown glaze, 2 coats 20 sheen conversion varnish. Measures 6 1/2'' wide and 8'' tall. Comments and critiques welcome.

Now that's something you don't see every day.
That came out nice, Mike! I really like the form and the accents are subtle and very attractive!

Ditto on what Neal said.
Very nice job Mike. I bet it made lots of fine dust while turning.

Thanks guys, mdf dulls tools fast and is very dusty, you have to wear a mask. It shapes easily and hollowes good. Sanding is a breeze, much easier than wood (no grain to tear out)

I like that Mike. It looks a little like the old pre plastic cellulite material you always see at the antique shows.

I don't really think that a dust mask will cut it! That is for filtering out pig particles... the bad stuff goes right on through. I would consider a respirator minimum plus a collector/extractor. Anyway... I think the piece looks real cool! The material is pretty unique. Nice idea for mdf. Your shape is really appealing too. Your finish is really awesome! I like it!!!

That is beautiful! MDF is nasty stuff to work with. You definitely made it pay off!
