Jim Ketron gave me this chunk of Maple last year and I roughed this bowl out (yes, soaked in DNA) and let it sit for a long time on the rack to get good and dry. It ended up 15" wide and 6-1/2" tall. You can see some of the nice, tight curl in there along with some neat markings/figure. Thanks a bunch, Jim!

WHAT!!! Done with the walnut??? ;) Awesome piece of wood... that grain is spectacular! The shape goes very well with it... I like it!!!!

Beautiful bowl, Mark! I think it's hard to beat a highly figured piece of maple.

Purdy purdy. What's on it? Looks like hard maple (A saccharum), but does that grow all the way down to Arkansas? You kept the color nicely.

Mark, that is one beautiful bowl! I can just see it sitting on the counter piled full of shiny red apples. I really like it.

First of all that is very pretty wood, but wow did you turn a great looking form .....That bowl is following my ...or is it just that figure that keeps moving!!:)

Yep, I was thinking of about 1/2 lb of Orvile's finest :eek: ..... Casablanca and the LOML.:D Nice work. Excellent shape.

Thanks George - I just put some mineral oil on it for now since I wasn't sure how it would be used. I don't know if hard Maple grows down here or not in Arkyville, but this chunk of wood came from Virginia - where Jim K lives.
