Looks like you are well on your way with your new laser engraver. Black marble is a killer material, especially enjoyed by the ladies.

I have been doing my homework and a considerable amount of R&D concerning cutting and prepping marble over the last few weeks. Cutting is a snap, just purchase a good tile saw. Curves are also easy, use your jig saw and purchase the tile cutting blades. Prepping the edges is another story, I have been using abrasive belts and they work but I'm looking for another option. After a long search for the right tool I have given up and intend to design and build my own sliding jig. I'll be sure to post a picture here when it is completed.

Beware that much of the stainless steel available has a protective coating that must be removed before engraving with Cermark. If you don't remove the coating the Cermark will wash right off of the engraved surface. I have been blasting stainless steel with glass beads to clean the surface before engraving.

Check your local bookstore for the Dover Electronic Clip Art books. Most are available with the artwork on CD's which saves you the time of scanning each graphic.

Pick up a copy of Patrick Spielmans book "Making Wood Signs", there are lots of good tips and ideas to get you going making signs in this book.
