Hello everyone,

Some of you probably remember that back in the summer we had a mialbox problem at our house. Seems that someone decided that it looked better flat than mailbox shaped. We really had a round with these boys. They actually smashed 6 malboxes and out right stole one more. Luckily they ended up getting caught. :D They actually had to pay restitution money to me which I just got and converted into a new Grizz G0512 edge sander. Thank you to the judge!!!

I zipped up to Griz yesterday and picked it up. I got it up and running and plumbed into the DC system today. Seems really nice so far. Griz has 3 different versions of the same basic sander. I felt the 0512 was the best buy. It's the most expensive....of course. :D It has a larger table that wraps all the way around the unit and a smaller idler roller so you can sand smaller curves than with the others. The larger stand on the 0512 is much nicer as well.

I will post a full review as soon as I get a chance. I'm sure it will be very handy for those inset doors I seem to always have trouble with. I had to rearrange a bit, but I managed to find a spot for it.

Merry Christmas to all and to all a good nite.

Terry

Now you're just showing off!!! :-)

Very nice addition, Terry. I'm really hoping to get to the BBQ next year to see all these toys in person. Have fun!!

LOL........

Mark, It's really not worth it. :D Just buy the dang sander.

If one of their friends had not shot his mouth off at a party, we would have never caught them. I will get that silly grin every time I use the sander though.

KC,

They mashed a bunch of them. So many that I had to replace the post. Even a post can only take so many whacks with a baseball bat.

The one they stole was custom made by one of my buddies. It cost me $350. It looked like a normal oversize mail box, but was actually made entirely from 1/4" steel plate. When I picked it up from the powdercoater dude, he brought it to the truck with a fork lift!!! :D I built a "real" post just for that baby from 4X6 treated timber. It's 5 ft. in the ground with 6 bags of concrete around it. They actually hit it a few nites after I got it up with a metal bat. I was in bed, but not asleep. We had the windows open and I knew exactly what that sound was as soon as I heard it. :D It rang like a church bell. :D They were long gone by the time I got up and to the front door. It was about midnight. I sat up and watched until 4 a.m. Sometime after that, they came back with a sledge hammer!! Screwed up the powdercoating, but that's all. I thought I had won. Couple of nites after that they came back and stole it!!!!

That baby was carriage bolted to the post too...I mangled the threads so it couldn't be just unbloted. I have no idea how they managed to get it off the post to steal it!!!

The judge said $750 was cheap.

Terry,

You keep buying new tools we ain't gonna have room for a BBQ in your shop! That sander does look like fun though. Of course I don't have room for something like that, so I just got one of the Veritas apron planes to handle those inset doors that won't quite fit. I'll just have to make motor noises when I use it. No worries about hooking up the dust collection either. :D

Nothing like a visit from "Sandy Claus" to keep you on edge, eh? :D

Very nice addition to your shop, Terry. I look forward to your upcoming review, too. Edge sanders are starting to catch more attention, especially as an alternative to combo sanders. Many folks, including myself, tend to use the belt on the combo most of the time and an edge sander just makes more sense in that regard.

Happy Holidays!

Bob,

Tools without cords...hmmm......nope...never heard of 'em. :D

I got a big yard. We'll just have to make do at the BBq.

Jim,

My train of thought exactly!!! I just saw WAY more possibilities for this sander than a combo.

Terry,

I put a cord on it. Sure had a devil of a time finding a place to attach the wires though. If you wanna try it out, I'll plug it in for you!

ANOTHER POWER TOOL!?!?!?!? Keep that up and you'll have to add on to the shop to have room to work..!!! :)

I can't say that I would want to put up with all you did on the mailbox smashers to get a power tool though. Congrats on the new edge sander and I can't wait until I read your review.

So when is you going to get a new 50" Wide Belt Sander..?!!?:)

Don't worry about that Bob.....Terry will just have to add an additional 800 sq ft to that shop of his so he will still have room to work on projects.....and have room for the BBQ..... :)
